Finding balance through somatic awareness
Brian Heery, Ph.D. SEP
Somatic Experiencing Practitioner
Welcome, Somatic Experiencing (SE) can be particularly helpful in restoring balance and supporting healing after a traumatic experience such as an accident, injury, PTSD, chronic stress, anxiety, childhood abuse, or recovery after an operation. SE may reduce symptoms of traumatic events by helping your body process the physical and emotional tension associated with trauma. This can lead you toward a more holistic awareness of your whole being, which can facilitate healing, growth, and transformation.
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-centered approach to healing trauma developed by Dr. Peter Levine. This approach can be helpful in restoring balance and stability in your nervous system, increasing resilience, accessing optimal states, and navigating challenges with life transitions.
ABOUT ME
Brian Heery, Ph.D., SEP
Since earning a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology in 2003, I've worked with corporations and individuals in various settings, bringing the exploration of the intersection of the body, mind, and spirit to people of all backgrounds. Having enjoyed my experience as a USA national coach in gymnastics, whether you are a competitive athlete, recreational athlete, or someone searching for greater balance and stability to better cope with life's challenges, I enjoy providing support for individuals on their journey of transformation.
Practicing Somatic Experiencing (SE) with clients has been an amazing journey of discovery for my clients and I. I've seen the positive impact this modality has had on many individuals' lives.
As a fifth-degree black belt in the Japanese martial art of Aikido, I can help you practice and discover how to strengthen your own center and ground, increasing your experience of balance and stability.

The Body, Mind, and Breath Seminar will cover some Indian breathing techniques and some practices from the Tibetan Bon Tradition. Dominique Sensei is a student of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, and he will share some of what he is permitted to share from the Tibetan Bon practices. New students are welcome, and returning students are invited to deepen their understanding and practice. There will be four practice sessions each day on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, the first starting each morning at 6 am and the last session of the day ending around 8 pm.
The Aikido Seminar on Tuesday will include two sessions: a morning session from 10 am to noon and an afternoon session from 2 pm to 4 pm. There will be some bokken (wooden sword) practice, so if you have your own, please bring it with you; if not, there will be extra wooden swords available to borrow for the practice.
